FTP - The Classic Point-to-Point Filetransfer

The File Transfer Protocol, FTP in short, was one of the first protocols governing the transfer of files especially of large amounts from one computer to another over TCP/IP network and the internet (RFC 959). Thus FTP, which is also used to transfer EDI messages (Electronic Data Interchange), proves itself a cost-saving and wide-spread procedure for point-to-point interchange of business data. In order to identify themselves to their partners internet server, business partner exchange their username and passwords first.

i-effect^® *FTP is a native iSeries FTP connector for data interchange between IBM System i5 ( iSeries, AS/400 ) and other computer systems via TCP/IP networks. *FTP offers data transfer according to the EBCDIC character set (abbreviation, Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code) used on IBM plattform.
