Problem to be solved:
We were challenged, to setup nationwide EDIFACT communications for a restructured energy market according to the guidelines of the Federal Network Agency by August 1st 2007. Our shop needed a multitenant application, which is easy to monitor. Furthermore, we needed a product, which could be maintained and expanded with little additional costs, because the large number of communication partners and the restructuring of the gas market bring new challenges and frequent changes.
Why i-effect® was chosen:
i-effect was able to convince us by meeting our demands with its flexible, low maintenance structure and a good cost/performance ratio. Another deciding factor was that the software runs directly on the System i (iSeries/AS400) and requires no further hardware components for communication.

Advantages gained by this solution:
Our employees familiarized themselves with i-effect very quickly. Through the flexibility of the product and menten GmbH’s support, all challenges were met quickly. Another advantage is i-effect’s functional diversity. Today we use many i-effect modules, which we had not originally intended to use. As new challenges arose we recognized that, for some of them, the solutions were already at hand.

Our experiences with menten GmbH and i-effect have been decidedly positive. The daily communication with hundreds of communication partners and processing of up to 1500 EDIFACT-documents runs stably. Because many communications partners interpret the guidelines differently, new requirements and changes occur frequently. These changes were attended to quickly and competently by menten GmbH’s team or by us.

The company rhenag (Rheinische Energie AG), which was founded 1872 in Cologne, is an established regional utilities provider and, at the same time, works with local governments and public utilities. Managerial and professional competence and close relationships with local utility companies have been characteristics of rhenag since it’s founding.
