E-Mail

E-Mail – Name for electronic mail. A wide range of information can be sent my by a user or system by means of an E-mail. An E-mail sent to a singular person, it is usually called a personal message (PM/Netmail). E-mail messages sent between application systems are usually called (->) EDI messages.


EAN

EAN – European Article Number ; In Germany, the EAN is represented by GS1 Germany GmbH (formerly „CCG“) in Cologne. EAN number and EAN bar code are used to identify articles and goods of all origins (consumer and trading units) regardless of sector. EAN is a non descriptive numbering system that only. It does not classify or describe the article that carries a number.


EAN 128

EAN 128 - International standard for transmission of bar coded data contents. An EAN-128 bar code label can be universally read and is used to label shipping units by everything from manufacturers to wholesalers and retailers.


EANCOM

EANCOM - Acronym for EAN and COMmunication. International EDI standard of the EAN International; EANCOM is a (->) subset of the EDIFACT standards. EANCOM comprises especially of messages that are used for trading of consumer products.


EBCDIC

EBCDIC (Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code) is an 8-bit character encoding (code page) used on IBM mainframe operating systems, like z/OS, OS/390, VM and VSE, as well as IBM minicomputer operating systems like OS/400 and i5/OS. It is also employed on various non-IBM platforms such as Fujitsu-Siemens´ BS2000/OSD, HP MPE/iX, and Unisys MCP. It descended from punched cards and the corresponding six bit binary-coded decimal code that most of IBM´s computer peripherals of the late 1950s and early 1960s used.


EDI

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the computer-to-computer exchange of structured information, by agreed message standards, from one computer application to another by electronic means and with a minimum of human intervention. In common usage, EDI is understood to mean specific interchange methods agreed upon by national or international standards bodies for the transfer of business transaction data, with one typical application being the automated purchase of goods and services.

Despite being relatively unheralded, in this era of technologies such as XMLservices, the Internet and the World Wide Web, EDI is still the data format used by the vast majority of electronic commerce transactions in the world.


EDI-INT AS2

The specification is an extension of AS1. Applicability Statement 2 is a specification for EDI between businesses using the Internet´s Web page protocol, the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). The AS2 standard allows communication in real time rather than through e-mail delivery. Security, authentication, message integrity, and privacy are assured by the use of encryption and digital signatures.


EDI-Message

EDI-Message – An ordered sequence of information that completely covers a business transaction (e.g. an order). When EDIFACT structures are used, the messages are called EDIFACT messages. On or more EDI or EDIFACT messages are merged (->) into one interchange.


EDIFACT

UN/EDIFACT is the international EDI standard developed under the United Nations. The acronym stands for United Nations/Electronic Data Interchange For Administration, Commerce, and Transport. The work of maintenance and further development of this standard is done through UN/CEFACT, the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business under the UN Economic Commission for Europe. EDIFACT has been adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as the ISO 9735 :

  1. Provides a set of syntax rules to structure data
  2. Provides an interactive exchange protocol (I-EDI)
  3. Provides standard messages (allows multi-country and multi-industry exchange)

Electronic Signature

Electronic Signature - Process which uses cryptographic methods to authenticate the originator of an electronic message.


ERP

ERP - „Enterprise Resource Planning“ - Completely integrated software solution for assembly, finance, logistics, personnel, projects, sales etc. ERP systems offer functionality for all departments of a company and usually consist of modular components.


Extranet

Extranet - Exchange of information between intranets of business partners over the Internet.
