i-effect® Release Update V1R5

menten GmbH, communication and data integration specialist, announces the release of the new i-effect® Version V1R5.

This release makes it possible to create, using data on the System i, the legally compliant PDF/A (1a) and to archive them, long term, in a read only auditable format in i-effect® *INFOSTORE.

Archiving and Document Management
With the new module *INFOSTORE, i-effect® has added a document management solution, which offers long term archiving in auditable formats. InfoStore was integrated seamlessly and quickly in i-effect® because of cooperation with Solitas. Customers have already profited from this new partnership with the *INFOSTORE module.

Data conversion into PDF/A can be automated. The documents can be catalogued for full-text searches, digitally signed with the i-effect® module *SIGG, and then archived. i-effect® *INFOSTORE not only secures the data for the future, but also meets legal requirements for archiving of business records. InfoStore WebDMS allows the user use a web browser to send and retrieve documents to and from the archive, and to conduct archive queries.

With its more then 900 installations InfoStore is the most successful Archive and DMS solution on the market for IBM System i.

PDF/A – for Long Term Archiving
The archiving period of up to 30 years and the technical and organizational challenges require a complex and traceable document integration process.

Because it fulfils the ISO standard 19005-1, i-effect® specifies the highest level of conformity, namely level A (PDF/A-1a). For the first time users can convert print data into the space saving PDF/A format and send them or archive them securely.

The linchpin of data integration for IBM System i, i-effect® *SPOOL+ module, also has this functionality. The advantages of PDF/A over traditional archiving with TIFF or JPEG2000 Scan´s are smaller file size and full-text search capability. i-effect® can digitally sign the data and archive them with a test report.

Every validation software (e.g. Adobe Reader) can test the PDF/A documents.

Background of the PDF/A Standard
The PDF/A standard is the result of the cooperation of industry and companies around the world. ISO 19005-1 defines a file format that is based on PDF called PDF/A. This format does not allow the visual appearance of the document to change over time, regardless of the tools or the systems for creation, storage and copying.

i-effect® - ready for IBM i
With i-effect® V1R5 all components of i-effect® are approved for IBM i (6.1). Without any changes to i-effect®, users can update to the new operating system. i-effect customers, who wan to update to the new operating system IBM i 6.1, can visit the product website www.i-effect.de for further information and for system requirements.

Other functions of the new release:
The popular i-effect® module *DBEXPORT has also been reworked to allow the user, among other things, to export directly from DB2 into PDF. Many software corrections, expansions, and customer requests were integrated into almost all modules, e.g. *BASE, *AS2, *FTP, *EMAIL, *CRYPT, *DB2 und *EDIFACT.
